Synopsis
Publisher's Summary In this number one New York Times best-selling novel of first love and second chances, former high school sweethearts confront the painful truths of their past to build a promising future - together. "Everyone wanted to believe that endless love was possible. She'd believed in it once, too, back when she was eighteen". In the spring of 1984, high school students Amanda Collier and Dawson Cole fell deeply, irrevocably in love. Though they were from opposite sides of the tracks, their love for one another seemed to defy the realities of life in their small town in North Carolina. But as the summer of their senior year came to a close, unforeseen events would tear the young couple apart, setting them on radically divergent paths. Now, 25 years later, Amanda and Dawson are summoned back home for the funeral of Tuck Hostetler, the mentor who once gave shelter to their high school romance. Neither has lived the life they imagined...and neither can forget the passionate first love that forever changed their lives. As Amanda and Dawson carry out the instructions Tuck left behind for them, they realize that everything they thought they knew - about Tuck, about themselves, and about the dreams they held dear - was not as it seemed. Forced to confront painful memories, the former lovers will discover undeniable truths about the choices they have made. And in the course of a single, searing weekend, they will ask of the living, and the dead: Can love truly rewrite the past? ©2011 Nicholas Sparks (P)2011 Hachette

Nicolas Sparks has finally wooed me. He was able to capture the story and the characters to a point that it brought tears to my own eyes as i heard the ending. Finally a book that I can treasure. So similar to my own experiences in life of love and loss and growing in different paths, it was awesome to hear and experience. One of my favorite authors of all times.Great job.

The story was excellent and held my attention to the very end.I would have liked a happier ending, it is a very good read, and worth the money.

This wonderful book by renouned author Nickalis Sparks is a story of faith, love, and in the end realizing that you can change, but only if you want to.

Is there anything you would change about this book?I would like to make the ending less predictable.Do you think The Best of Me needs a follow-up book? Why or why not?No, Any additional comments? For a self-proclaimed Christian, I find it just a little disturbing Nicholas likes to flirt with situations of infidelity on a seemingly increasing trend. With the ability to write a solid and wonderful novel such as “A Walk to Remember”, why does he insist on bringing that kind of darkness into his otherwise pleasant and insightful stories? It is not needed and for my money, I believe he paints a better picture without it.

Just hate that a character always has too die but good story line, just sad.

Great story and performance. The characters are dynamic and Sparks keeps you enthralled as to what will happen next. I can’t wait for his next book!

great story.unfortunately the narrator would drop his voice at the end of moat sentences and that made him difficult to hear when there was background noise.

Once I started listening to this I could not stop...Once again MR Sparks hits a home run......I love this book

What disappointed you about The Best of Me?This book was the sappiest thing I have ever come across. It was shameless with ridiculous sentimentality. Got to the last few chapters and just stopped. I felt like my IQ dropped a few points for entertaining it for that long. What could Nicholas Sparks have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you? Get more real! He either is the most sensitive human being on the planet or is just catering to lonely women in desperate, and I mean desperate need, of some love and affection. Would you be willing to try another one of Sean Pratt’s performances?Maybe. What character would you cut from The Best of Me?All of them!!!!!

This book is a combination Days of our Lives, and Family Feud. I don't know how I got it as I was looking in Mysteries and Thrillers. This is no page turner, and is very touchy feely. The ending is very hokey and I knew the ending long before it came. That said it is not a bad book, and is easy listening for an unrequited love story. There is some action, the family feud part, and a hint of ghosts, but not scary ones. Not my type of book, but if you like soaps, go for it.
