This is a sweet, funny book where, also, some murder happens. It is not a thriller. I wouldn’t even call it a murder mystery. But it was an enjoyable read. There were some truly funny scenes and a few moments that made me tear up. I enjoyed the characters and wished some of them had been more fully developed. There is a bit of a quality control with the audio for this recording, some chapter are very quiet and others are loud. Also, while I enjoyed the narrator, I think she was a bit inconsistent on some things — particularly the pronunciation of “Ibrahim.”Those things aside, I liked the book.

Clever, witty, brilliant. Remarkable characters I will never forget. So much so, the actual mysteries are secondary. I just didn’t want it to end.Author Marian Keyes believes it is a classic. Who am I to disagree?

This one is for you! I’m so sick of reading books that feature teenagers saving the world (yeah right). I’m glad to have run across this book. The main characters are older adults (senior citizens) and they are witty, smart, and subtly funny. You’ll love them as well as the mystery they are trying to solve. Lots of twists and turns. It will keep you entertained throughout. I’m adding this book to my favorites list! Thank you Richard!

Great Title, confusing storyline.
Great Title, confusing storyline. Sep 19, 2022

When I saw this title, I thought it would be a clever and amusing murder mystery. instead, it was a confusing conglomerate of too many characters and a muddied storyline. Maybe this is one of those books that should be read, and not listened to so you can thumb back a few pages or a few chapters and try to make sense of it. As an Audible, I found that one chapter would be clever or intriguing, and the next few would be dull and confusing. I actually fell asleep several times and had to replay the thing and try to stay interested. As a result I really didn't care about the characters or what happened to them. Really disappointed.

What a writer this guy is! What a reader this woman is! Snappy dialogue, absolutely marvelous characters, witty, touching, real. I can’t say enough good things about this book.

A tonic for the stress of our time

A treasure. Entertaining, touching, diverting, filled with twists and turns and great characters. And most important -- for me, anyway -- reading it makes you feel just a little bit better about people. I don't know whether I would have felt as strongly had I read the book instead of listening, but I didn't so there... Anyway, Lesley Manville does such a superlative job narrating that I'm definitely going to listen to the sequel. (What a talent she is!) Not right away, of course, but I will get it now for my Audible library. I'm pretty sure my wife and daughter will enjoy this first book too so I'm going to order a copy for them as soon as I'm done here.

I could not get into this book. I can usually make myself listen to the end even if it’s not very interesting. I had to stop. Extremely boring.

Rambling story; gross performance

The story went on and on and on without gaining ground, but my biggest complaint is that the narrators “p” sound at the end of words was so wet sounding that I wanted to give her a napkin. Couldn’t bear another moment.

Of maudlin and confused. I read and listen to A LOT of these things, and by the end, the story-line, and 86 million sub-plots, cute asides, and deliberate twisty-turn coincidences had my cocking my head and thinking...'Huh'?The narration was excellent, but basically I felt like I was being subjected to 12 hours of a Lewis/Morse/Midsummer Murder Mashup.

I accidently listened too long while I was working and now I cannot return it.Will not finish. It was not funny as advertised and was moving way too slow.I know I do not want to keep a book if I get in the car and can't wait to turn it on or fold laundry and do not want to listen.
