I've watched a lot of films and this is one of the worst I've ever seen. Low budget is one thing but this travesty didn't even try. The film is hard to follow and the storyline just jumps all over the place. It was obviously meant to be a film for young children and yet it has curse words for no reason at all. That's trashy and lazy writing. Not every film needs curse words. I could have written something more sane with some crayons and a napkin. I don't understand the need for the random old narrator guy. The props team and CGI is downright lazy. I've seen better props in school plays. Save yourself some time and don't watch this movie.

Adventure family film that all of us enjoyed. Have kids 6, 9, 14. Love how each character had a piece of the puzzle to solve the treasure hunt. It would be a fun model for classroom events. Thought the kids were terrific in the film. Haven't seen any of them before and will be looking for them from now on. Very likable and different characters. Again, loved how they each had different skills to solve the adventure. Great music on the soundtrack. Some pretty locations. Beautiful river, caves, cemeteries, felt like I went somewhere. Like many films story was simple but better done than most (we watch everything out there in the family genre). High recommend.

I felt the actors were not playing the characters smoothly. But rather forcing out an obvious output. It was missing homogenius character filling by almost all actors. The filming was actually nice and so was sound. To an extent VFX was ok. Introduction of characters is something that is missed in this movie with some depth. I would have liked to see an intro like indiana jones or may be the Mummy movie. How ever it misses on some aspects like why is a character behaving like it is doing in a later part of life. There was no balance of reasoning. Also kids were overacting in some scenes which director could have reviwed and retook at the same spot. I had to force through the movie for most part to understand the story plot. The dynamics were there but bad execution and transitions.

Goonies being one of my favorite films - I appreciated this film. The chase for Tom Sawyer's gold straight out of the book is pretty neat subject. While occasionally low budget as it tried to reach for something bigger, it delivers more than you would expect. The acting is solid, nice camera work and music. Loved the bond between the kids. Who doesn't like seeing Joey Lauren Adams? Patrick Muldoon makes for a good bad guy. Some of the FX aren't as strong as you hope but a lot of large budget film do it worse. Had a Spielberg type feel to it with camera and music. Really happy to have discovered this one. A few spots the film reaches beyond itself. Some of the treasure hunting isn't exactly plausible however characters keep you in it and caring.
