Sorry to be so cold to the experiences of those involved but how can anyone be this stupid? It's difficult to feel sorry for them. Yes he's a con man but how could you just not figure it out, year after year? Seems more like a kidnapping and Stockholm Syndrome.

Wow what a great crime drama, This monster is incredibly delusional. So what are the chances that he is living in the United States now? How many more people are just like this Narcissistic peace of crap of a monster? Man this TV series left me so emotionally charged I came straight here to tell you that we can not let people like this out in the open! We need to lock people up like this in the loony bin!

This film sorely lacks background information about this Con Man. The obvious reason for me is that this Con Man wasn't as efficient as this film maker wants us to believe. I have an MA in Social Psychology and I studied the scientific literature about "attitude change" ( aka "persuasive communication" ) very deeply as a grad student. Based on what I've learned, I can assure you that this guy approached MANY people before he found the ones who were most susceptible to his charms. I'll bet my Soc Sec pension check that this guy had less than a 10% success rate in terms of all the people he approached. Of course, the film maker doesn't want to reveal that because it would make this Con Man look less persuasive, as well as making his "victims" look like the most Naive and Gullible people in Society (which, in Reality, they were !!!). The unspoken premise of the film is that the people that this man "hooked" were the ONLY Ones he tried to "hook". However, such a premise is Unsustainable and Absurd. I can assure you that this man's victims were well outside the Bell shaped curve of Gullibility, and even a skilled Con Man needs to look long and hard for such unfortunate Super Suckers.

I watched the original BBC documentary a while back. That was 1hr long and fit in a lot more crazy facts than this one. No mention of his secret spy wristwatch, or his what seemed like genuine access to secret government information. Plenty more. I'd have thought Netflix would use the broader canvas to cover all that and more. No. This was, for me, like watching a film after finishing the book. The original really was fascinating stuff, this just sounds like another cheap con job.

It's a Masterpiece..a must watch.. but feel really sad for the families who suffered because of this evil conman..hope UK government will take action after watching this documentary..and justice will be served.

Come on guys, for sure you all have watched enough TRUE crime docs to pick this obvious fake and scripted "documentary" out. I only watched ep01 and not buying anything of it. Way too clean, the actors are playing without any feeling or emotion, the sound and graphics of the "old" footage are obviously modern digitally recreated fakes. Just as a double-check, I put some of the names in google and it found either no matches AT ALL, or nothing older than one week. So that obviously says enough. Don't waste your time.

This is an interesting story but as others have stated it is poorly executed. It's very sporadic, the timeline jumps around way too much and there's heavy overuse of dramatic visuals (2 minute scene of the map and string) with very little information given. I also agree they are leaving so much out and came at this from the wrong angle. It's hard to have any sympathy for those conned when they're presented as being just. That. Daft.
