So, let me just start by saying this , if a 16-year-old ever spoke to me the way that Bailey spoke to her there would be a different consequence. She may have spoken to other adults that way but she would not speak to me that way. Then, as if Catherine is going to go face to face with a man that has ties to the mafia and speak to him by challenging him, yeah, I don’t think so. The whole thing was too, as if!

This story is about a stepdaughter and stepmother coping to get along after their father/husband disappears. He is not the man anyone thought he was, and the two have tounravel who can be trusted, who can't, and if any place in the world is safe for them. The author captured the teenage attitudes toward life in general and step-parents in particular, very well. There are plot twists and revelations in every chapter. Entertaining read.

If you like huge plot holes that anyone with a brain could solve and annoying main characters then maybe this is the book for you.The only positive is the narrator (until you hear the dialogue from the characters she has to perform)

This book is not good

Repeated, uninspired phrasing and a monotone narration. The main character lacks the depth the author tries to give her, and requires long overly dramatic narration to get to the incredibly obvious conclusions that could have been arrived at significantly sooner. I actually caught myself yelling at the console at the denseness this character exhibits.Overuse of phrases and a lack of depth throughout. I'm shocked this is on the NY Times Bestseller list. Don't waste your time.

The ending 🙄

The book was fantastic all the way through up until the ending. The ending just seemed extremely rushed. I would’ve rather had a second book with more information then had a rush ending.

The writing was terrible. Too many words, so repetitive and the story has so many plot holes. This book really just makes no sense and isn’t worth the read.

Not terrible, not amazing

Overall, a totally fine book. Nothing amazing, nothing horrible. But two things. 1. A completely unrealistic ending I feel. They’re just completely fine moving on and then building a relationship with the family that caused her father to no longer exist in their lives?!? 2. If this is ever re-recorded PLEASE get rid of the dialogue crutches. “I said” “she said” “he said” WE KNOW WHO IS SPEAKING! It pulls you out of the story and it’s grating. It made me shut the book off because it reminded me of a mosquito in my ear.The narrator did a fine job, the story was cute.

The story was good. The narrator killed it fir me. If “Bailey” with emphasis on B was said once, it was said 2000x. It was not as good as it was built up to be.

good story, great narration, poor writing

Really enjoyed this narrator, and the book is easy to get through. It's a good thing it's fast paced and plot driven, because the writing isn't great. Most overused phrase - "that stopped me". It became comedic to hear it again and again. Overall, entertaining but nothing particularly special.
