awesome

I really enjoyed "The Hill". It had a believable story line and it was very family friendly. I loved how protective the father, played by Dennis Quaid, was protective of of his young son and showed the attitude of pastors during this time. He was a hard working idealistic pastor who loved people, put his ideals above his family, but showed love, kindness, care, and moral character. The son wore braces on his weak legs, but learned to play ball despite this hindrance. The father's disapproval and concern for his disabled son was hard but believable and the strength of character this son had to exemplify in order to get his father's approval to play baseball was inspirational. All of the characters were well played. That this was a true story and the father had integrity and an active learner in his faith was encouraging. Very edifying.

This is an inspirational story that's more about a young man overcoming his handicaps to pursue a dream than it is about baseball. But it's baseball that provided the dream for Rickey Hill (Colin Ford) ever since childhood, so much so that his passion became an obsession. The son of a devoted preacher (Dennis Quaid) in the rural, impoverished town of Brenham, Texas, young Rickey is torn by his father between his love of baseball and adhering to a Christian life to follow in his dad's footsteps. What was bad enough with Rickey's crippled legs supported by braces was made even worse when it was discovered he had a degenerative bone disease that threatened his ability to walk. But through sheer will power and his faith in God, Rickey overcame his handicap strongly enough to get a professional baseball tryout in which he convinced the most serious doubter he could have come up against - pro scout Red Murff (Scott Glenn). Though formulaic as most sports films are, this one proves more emotional than most, as one gets caught up in Rickey's misfortune with a firm desire to see him triumph over adversity and fulfill his lifelong dream.

About a ''gumpish''little rascal that came from the hill, and blew the ball at the top of the mountain of the us.baseball league system, against all odds and true believin' its an american sportsbiographic movie that follows the same ploughtrack of all the others typical/traditional american sportsmovies made over the years, its neither or nor , better or worse than others ,just the average and generic setup. But it has a religious set up that might catch an audience of spectators , believe it or not, and when youve got randy quaid by the helm of the ship, its usually something good. Im a grumpy old norvegian that used to be good with ''seltå''(norw for ''the bat'') when young , playing slåball in the school yard, still having no clue about the rules of baseball, may recommend a watch. Its a warm atmosphere under the friday night lights...
