Its not a classic but there are very few films out there at all at the moment, and this passed a very pleasant evening for me and my son. Olivia Cooke steals the film as Pixie and the rest of the cast provide good support. Alec Baldwin and Colm Meaney could have been used more. There are a few twists and the scenery is lovely. I think if you like Guy Ritchie style films you'll enjoy this.

I highly recommend every second of this movie. Different, quirky, funny. Just loved every second. Just please go and watch, ignore the reviews and gives it a try. I think it worths it.

Men stupid, women clever
Men stupid, women cleverFeb 15, 2023

If you are a fan of sexist stereotypes, this is the film for you. The men are without exception morons, they might be nasty violent morons or they might be blokes who think like women (as beloved of soaps), but still morons. The women are clever, unscrupulously manipulative, have zero warmth or generosity and are just all around nasty. The main character Pixie is not someone a rational person would want anywhere near their life. Oh, and "Come to Ireland". What on earth for, if they're like that?

Entertaining and darkly humourous.

Came across this quite by chance, and what a little gem of a film. Double crossing and more double crossing with Pixie manipulating everyone who crosses her path. Think Guy Richie on a low budget, that kind of story, but Irish instead of Cockneys. Well worth a watch if you like gangster flicks. I wouldn't rate it as a comedy, but the humour is there, and quite dark it is. It is what it is, a very enjoyable watch.

Charismatic, action-packed and absolutely hilarious
Charismatic, action-packed and absolutely hilariousFeb 15, 2023

Effortlessly charming and full of action throughout, Pixie is a comic caper of the highest order. Funny, tongue-in-cheek and energetic, it's a film that will make you laugh and smile to no end, all the while delighting with one of the best ensemble casts of the year - headed by the brilliant Olivia Cooke. There's so much to love about Pixie, but that cast is easily what makes it such an enjoyable film. Olivia Cooke is amazing in the lead role, giving a performance full of swashbuckling charisma as she leads two bewildered young men across Ireland on a daring cat-and-mouse chase that's way beyond their world. Ben Hardy and Daryl McCormack are hugely likable too alongside Cooke, and bring an enjoyable element of buffoonery to the table, as well as gelling nicely as the film's central trio. But it's Cooke that undoubtedly steals the show here in one of the most entertaining performances I've seen all year. But it's not just the lead three, because the film's supporting cast is full of surprises, including a brilliant turn from Colm Meaney as Pixie's gangster father, as well as Alec Baldwin as the leader of a violent group of gangster priests (and Baldwin does a fantastic regional Irish accent too). So, with such a strong ensemble cast on show all the way through this movie, there's no shortage of charisma here, and that plays brilliantly into the film's fun-loving caper style. If Pixie wasn't so full of likable, charismatic characters, it could have been so much harder to go with its adventure-style take on a heist gone wrong, but it's an absolute joy to spend time with all of these characters, good and bad, making the whole film an effortless delight. Complete with bursts of brilliant action, it's a fast-paced movie that builds nicely to an enormously entertaining crescendo. However, it's the comedy that really makes the movie sing, with consistently funny jokes and great chemistry between the characters from beginning to end. There are a couple of deeper emotional moments that lend a little more to the story, although don't necessarily hit home quite as strongly as seems to be the intention, but as far as being a fun Irish caper goes, Pixie is an utter joy, and one I would recommend in a heartbeat.

A fun and funny film by newb filmmakers

Producer and (turned newb) director Barnaby Thompson directed the film, and his cast perfectly. Newb (third writing credit, first being a short) Preston Thompson (Barnaby's son) came up with a great story that was fluid, perfectly paced and the just-right runtime at 93 mins. It had audacity, humor, suspense, action, with some far fetched moments and plenty of charm. I enjoyed the shoot-em-up straight out of the Tarantino playbook scenes that were unexpected and hilarious. Sure the story isn't anything original, but its infectious humor just may catch your mood, and give you that much-needed smile and lift. What really elevated this film was Olivia Cooke, who was sheer perfection in her character. Casting overall was excellent, and it was great to see Colm Meaney and Alec Baldwin. The score and cinematography were on point and the stunning Irish landscapes were incredible. The Thompson father and son duo should be very proud with their result, especially being novice filmmakers. It's a fun and funny film I really enjoyed and will probably see again. Ignore all the Trump's Baldwin haters and the stuck-up religious freaks who can't understand parody and humor. This little gem was awesome in every way. It's a well deserved 9/10 from me. A film we need at this moment

I was looking for fun, escapist fare, and this movie had it in spades. The three leads are all terrific (I definitely have a new matinee idol crush in Ben Hardy), and the script zips along, balancing weighty themes with zingy humor. The film pays homage to everything from early Tarantino to Spaghetti Westerns, while still being its own unique thing. Was exactly the diversion from politics and the pandemic that I needed--well done to all involved!

The Location and scenery were great. A couple of the jokes were funny. But to be honest it felt like there wasn't a lot going on in the movie.
