Took a chance on this, kept scrolling past and this afternoon i thought bugger it, may as well give it a go. I am thrilled to admit tgat i absolutely loved everything about it, every second. Brilliant from start to finish. All the actors did so well, i actually think this is based on a true story but if it isn't then it's great story telling. A really good feel good film to give you a lift and make you realise that their are good people in the world and that not everyone is greedy and selfish. Well done Poland. Makes me want to pack my bag and go find a beautiful polish women in a barn and live happily ever after. 10 out of 10. Left me feeling hopeful for the future, cheers.

Finally a great movie!

This movie was incredible. I didn't want it to end. There are so many movies out there but most of the newly made ones are awful. Forgotten Love was a great movie. I cried tears of happiness while watching this. Although one can predict the ending, the route to get there was unpredictable. Just another great thing about this movie. In addition to such a great story, I loved seeing a movie based on Poles and Poland. It's so rare to see movies that involve Poland and so many of us are descendants of Polish immigrants. So if you want to watch a great movie, watch Forgotten Love. This movie deserves an Academy Award!!

Love 1982 version, this one is flat, no emotions at all.
Love 1982 version, this one is flat, no emotions at all.Jul 29, 2024

It's not a bad movie. It's not a bad remake. But something is missing. I felt nothing in those emotional scenes because they were flat. Maybe it's screenplay fault? Maybe actors? Leszek Lichota who plays Dr Wilczur is very good, but Jerzy Binczycki in 1982 movie was magnificent. Of course for young generation and people who don't know the book or 82 version it will be a very good movie as we see in comments. Old version has its magic, great, better actors. Real artists, better plot and few cult moments. And this one I will watch again and again. Can't say this about Netflix production. But it's worth to watch it.

Found this on Netflix of all places Such a beautiful story! Tightly written and satisfying! Just goes to show that a budget of millions means nothing if you haven't got good writing behind it! Something Hollywood could learn. The amnesia story has been done before and the concurrent stories of the surgeon and his daughter is simple but lovely The rich guy goes after the poor girl, also a trope but again, beautifully done here A really comfy watch!! Definitely recommend. The dub is a tiny bit janky in places but that really doesn't matter The characters are instantly likeable and the cinematography is gorgeous Not one inch of screen time is wasted.

8.0 stars. This will be an instant classic I'm sure of it. This film evoked deep emotions to my core. The screenplay was perfection. The soundtrack was superb. The sets were authentic and noteworthy. The acting was spot on. The only downside for most of the audience is the language, which is Polish. As far as I know, this is one of the least spoken of the main languages in the developed world, so most will have to read the subtitles or utilize the dubbing. And some of the dubbing is lost in translation, the phrases and slang are outdated (slightly) and many of the voice actors did not capture the intended emphasis or pauses as I would have desired. Notwithstanding, I was still profoundly moved by 'Forgotten Love' ('Znachor'). Something about the Polish culture must take some extra hard work to translate into a Western mindset, however I was extremely entertained. Some of the scenes actually reminded me of great epic films of yesteryear. There are glimpses of the handiwork of many a famous director. And I must reiterate the soundtrack was brilliant and very moving. Many aspects are award-worthy, and hopefully this receives some nominations. If you have zero trouble with dubbed films, you absolutely must see this. Something about the ambience and the emotional response it brings is difficult to explain without simply advising you to give this film a try and see for yourself. I must emphasize that I don't want you to raise your hopes too high, because there are some parts that make little sense, slow moments interspersed throughout, maybe some awkward segues between pivotal scenes. On the other hand, there were also scenes which reminded me of 'Legends of the Fall', or perhaps a Jane Austen adaptation, or some great American films from the 1950's, 60's and 70's; and one critic mentioned it is akin to 'Les Miserables' and I wholeheartedly agree.

A Story of Betrayal, Reunion, and Redemption
A Story of Betrayal, Reunion, and RedemptionJul 29, 2024

If "Forgotten Love" had been a Lifetime film, the orphaned protagonist Marysia would have had a deranged father and a philandering husband. Instead, she has a father who is a brilliant and compassionate physician with amnesia and a devoted and sensitive fiancé with an aristocratic pedigree. This Polish film production is epic in its narrative sweep. The orphan Marysia works as a waitress in a Jewish tavern. Ironically, the father, Dr. Wilczur, who was betrayed by a jealous colleague and left for dead, arrives in the small agrarian community and becomes a miracle worker with his medical prowess. The cinematography was spectacular with a beautiful pastoral environment. The period style of the early twentieth century moves from the horse-and-buggy era to that of motor cars. As time marches on, the clues begin to appear that will reveal the doctor's true identity. The characters were multi-dimensional, including the beautiful country wench Zoska, who falls in love with Dr. Wilczur. The nasty countess who wants to thwart the union of her son with Marysia, is described by her husband as "a self-righteous and bumptious crone." But even she has a heart and reforms her ways. The only loose end was the fate of the nefarious doctor who sold out his friend and, to the bitter end, attempts to ruin Dr. Wilczur. But the country wedding of the two couples was splendid and nearly Shakespearean in the carefully crafted reunion and celebration of a community filled with human compassion.
