Synopsis

Publisher's Summary Number one New York Times best seller In her latest book, Brené Brown writes, “If we want to find the way back to ourselves and one another, we need language and the grounded confidence to both tell our stories and to be stewards of the stories that we hear. This is the framework for meaningful connection.” In Atlas of the Heart, Brown takes us on a journey through 87 of the emotions and experiences that define what it means to be human. As she maps the necessary skills and an actionable framework for meaningful connection, she gives us the language and tools to access a universe of new choices and second chances - a universe where we can share and steward the stories of our bravest and most heartbreaking moments with one another in a way that builds connection. Over the past two decades, Brown’s extensive research into the experiences that make us who we are has shaped the cultural conversation and helped define what it means to be courageous with our lives. Atlas of the Heart draws on this research, as well as on Brown’s singular skills as a storyteller, to show us how accurately naming an experience doesn’t give the experience more power, it gives us the power of understanding, meaning, and choice. Brown shares, “I want this book to be an atlas for all of us, because I believe that, with an adventurous heart and the right maps, we can travel anywhere and never fear losing ourselves.” Includes a downloadable PDF of illustrations from the book  PLEASE NOTE: When you purchase this title, the accompanying PDF will be available in your Audible Library along with the audio. ©2021 Brené Brown (P)2021 Random House Audio

Narrator does fantastic

I see what people meant now by the way she narrates. It’s amazing! It’s exactly what I would do- go back and listen again to understand. Normally I read reviews on narration to decide whether I listen on tape or read myself. This is definitely a great one to listen too. I love the way this is presented. I recommend it to others.

So much great info. I have a whole list of areas that I want to dig deeper. There were a few quotes that brought me to tears. The hard copy is stunningly gorgeous. But the Audible version felt like a talk with a friend. I really benefited from that feeling.

Longest uninspiring intro. First title I heard from this author, but it sounds like she is a Big deal…

Slightly Disappointed

I love Brene Brown’s books. But I have to say, I was slightly disappointed in this one. Largely, because there was too many woke and political components to the story, that really diluted it for me.

The end of the book is where I found my pot of gold. It makes such a difference to have new words/better words to express old feelings. I have come into a new understanding of myself and others behaviors. Beautifully done.

Boring, encyclopedic
Boring, encyclopedic Sep 6, 2022

I usually love Brene Brown’s books but this one is unfortunately dry textbook encyclopedic level of boring.

Too political
Too political Sep 6, 2022

I am a longtime fan but didn’t sign up to hear about politics while listening to this one…I couldn’t finish it. Hopeful that future books will stick to the subject matter rather than including political views.

Best Audible Presentation Yet

I completely agree with everyone else who has commented on the excellent reading of this book. Having listened to many audiobooks, I find that Dr. Brown's presentation is uniquely engaging, perhaps in part because she is a self-proclaimed avid audiobook listener. Bandhu, if you see this comment, you asked about the illustrations...go to your Audible library and there should be a "View PDF" link on the right side of the book description, just below "Listen Now".The PDF is well worth downloading; the images beautifully illustrate the points. I can't wait to "backtrack" and listen to Brené Brown's other works.
