They Called Him a Kyokushin Monster… But He Became Something More
2026
Synopsis
They called him a Kyokushin monster. But fighting was only part of the story. Akira Masuda became one of the most respected heavyweight fighters in Kyokushin Karate, combining extraordinary physical power with speed, technique, conditioning, and an unbreakable fighting spirit. From his early days at the Kyokushin Kaikan Ishikawa Dojo to the elite tournament stage, Masuda faced some of the toughest competitors in full-contact Karate. In 1990, he defeated Kenji Midori in the final of the 22nd All Japan Tournament. He later became the 12th person to complete the legendary 100-Man Kumite — reportedly the last to complete the challenge directly under the supervision of Kyokushin founder Sosai Masutatsu Oyama. But Masuda's story doesn't end with competition. Today, the ninth-degree black belt continues to teach, write, and pass the philosophy of Budo to the next generation. His journey reveals something deeper about the meaning of a Kyokushin monster. Because the greatest legacy of a fighter may not be how many opponents he defeated… but what he built after the fighting was over.
