I would have given it at least 2 stars if it was not such a blatant one-sided story advocating for the so-called "refugees"!! The story is so weird and pathetic too. The script has absolutely no logic whatsoever. Waste your time watching it if you want to see a badly written political agenda kind of a story!

This series is packed full of drama, emotion and empathy. Makes me realise what life is truly like and there but the grace of God go I. Such important television - this is a phenomenal show and I'd undoubtedly recommend it.

It's really disheartening to see bad reviews here based on personal politics - if you are that hung up on Australia's immigration policy then why would you even watch this show? Personally I think the cinematography is great, excellent cast and acting (I grew up in that neck of the woods and found it completely accurate), and the general plot so far shows both viewpoints, not the left wing propoganda that some reviewers seem to indicate. My whole family sits down to watch it, and so far we all love it. Don't be put off by rabid narrow minded reviews

I believe that Yvonne Strahovski is a great actress who needs to be in spotlight but her character here was a bit annoying. Asher Keddie was a big surprise for me she should get more roles. The story itself is too slow-paced and it would have been enough if they made a movie off this story.

I had the opportunity to attend the premiere at The Berlinale. I saw the first two episodes. It was intriguing and heartbreaking from start to finish. We often try to forget about the people, who are not as lucky as most of us are, who have to flee their country and their home. We way too often close our eyes. This shows us the brutal reality of Detention Centers. Can't wait for the next episodes!

This thoughtful and finely crafted piece of television changed my view of Australian Immigration and people seeking asylum. Thank you Cate Blanchett. There is so much racism in some of these reviews and comments - I feel ashamed. Please watch this show!!!!!

Look, its really difficult to review this show. While I was watching I quite enjoyed it but as soon as it was over for the week it didn't linger with me at all. I found it quite sterile. My sympathies are completely with the refugees and I guess I would call myself a leftie. If I lived in a country where I was persecuted and my children were in danger I'd like to think I had the courage to seek refuge in another country. Given my political stance, I was disappointed that this show didn't make me feel more. It all felt contrived - and what disappointing tick-the-box casting! Do we really need to pick the same two actresses over and over and over again - just because they have a large fan base. Shouldn't the ABC be above that? I'm only surprised Rebecca Gibney wasn't in it as well! Given the limited opportunities for actors in Australia can't we give some other actresses a go? Some new faces would have been grand. Honestly, I've shed tears in a news segment about the plight of refugees - but these characters just didn't resonate. Of course, that could be me - not the show. I just don't care enough to really find out!

Very moving and very contemporary. Made me realize how lucky i am.

Story was just bananas. Didn't find it attention grabbing. Characters were stereotypical. Story was super predictable. Couldn't get engaged. Political bias movies are getting to be the new norm. I'm just not sure who's really getting entertained by this new norm...

Incredible performances and heart breaking story. As an Australian living overseas this is so important for the world to see how Australia treats its refugees. People do not know how lucky they are just to be born in a certain country and have so many comforts that are so easy when compared to those in third World war stricken countries. We take it for granted. Stays with you long after watching!
