Refreshing old-school comedy
Refreshing old-school comedyOct 23, 2023

Refreshing old school comedy. Good to see a no holds, barred comedy, taking cues from real life which, as we all know, is the funniest material for comedians. The contrast of today's absolute psychopathic nuttiness compared to the older generation is insanely depicted here in vivid color. Just listening to these people that Bills character encounters makes not only your head spin, with an occasional urge to throat punch them. Their nuttiness is over the top, just like real life. This makes the contrast all the more funny. More grateful than ever that this is their generation, and not mine. It' depicts they're inability to cope with anything very very well, and their ability to find a problem with every solution. Good stuff, refreshing stuff, I need more of it.

Another modern "comedy"

In 2023 you can assume that any comedy will have terrible profanity, gross out humor and mean-spirited/selfish character profiles so let's just get that out of the way. The plot is a disillusioned Gen Xer is trying to get his child into private school overrun with hippie-dippie millennials. It might have been a funny premise but it was mostly just millennials whining or being selfish and the main character making remarks to show how much of a smart, grounded man he is. They had some side characters but I didn't pay much attention to them for the little bit of time I actually watched the film. I know that the black character got his female partner pregnant and then proceeded to go through the infuriating scene where 2 grown people question how a pregnancy occured, as if they don't know how babies are made. I don't understand why grown people don't know that if you deposit male DNA in the female DNA receptacle...a pregnancy is possible/likely to occur. After that scene along with all the out of control hollering and profanity I had to tap out.

This is bill burrs directorial debut and he does a good job. All his typical comedy brand is in the first half of the film. Then it turns into a typical, corporate Netflix film. What you would expect from a 'scripted' story with undertones. It is based around modern day society, anger, change, compassion, robotic life styles, power, understanding, toxicity, past vs present vs future. To wrap up. It is very funny until its not. It has some what of a 'suit & tie' feel to it, as it settles down into the home run. Many familiar faces in it. Plenty of dad bods and beer and Pretty wife's and upper-class lifestyles.

With practically the first line being anti vegan you know exactly what's coming! Burr is my favourite comedian so so i will see anything this man puts out, this is a fairly simple movie about 3 middle aged dads getting caught up in this modern world, and Burr reacts as many want to react. The line at the school what he called the principle was amazing and exactly what you want to say! If you follow Burrs stand up or podcast you will be fully aware of the style of comedy you are in for and any fans im sure you'll think this movie is hilarious. Give it a go, for me this is one of the better things netflix have put out recently.
