The Berklee Bruno Mars Ensemble performs an “Uptown Funk" and "Formation” medley, paying tribute to Bruno Mars and Beyoncé’s Super Bowl halftime performance. As part of Berklee’s Signature Series, the Bruno Mars Ensemble performed a sold-out Bruno Mars Tribute Show at the Berklee Performance Center. The ensemble consists of outstanding student vocalists and instrumentalists selected by Berklee Professor Tia Fuller, a saxophonist, composer, and educator who toured extensively with Beyoncé’s original all-female band. This performance features a collaboration with the Berklee Marching Percussion Club and over 30 female dancers from both the Boston Conservatory at Berklee and Berklee College of Music. Some of Berklee's most popular shows in recent years were produced by Jonathan Foo '18. He shares with us his unique role and what it takes to produce live shows. Foo is a live entertainment producer known for his event management. He directs concerts in their entirety, including the music, choreography, lighting design, stage management, marketing, and overall logistics. He strives to achieve the highest standards of production and understands the creativity and hard work required to achieve that. His strong business acumen has created a reputable brand for his shows, ensuring successful turnouts. The audience experience is everything to him. Foo has produced three sold-out shows at the Berklee Performance Center: Beyoncé’s Original All-Female Band Concert in March 2017, the Bruno Mars Tribute Show in February 2018, and the Berklee Chinese New Year Concert in February 2018. Unraveled is an immersive 360 audio and visual experience where the listener finds themselves at the center of all elements, being surrounded by choir, strings, synths, and imagery. Where you turn your head, sound from that direction will be emphasized and filtered. For the full immersive experience, please wear headphones. Yao is a composer, sound designer, and artist who developed a passion for music at a very young age. She recently graduated from Berklee College of Music with a Bachelor of Music Degree in Electronic Production & Design and Film Scoring. Yao has made it her mission to pursue a career combining her love for music, sound, and technology. The making of an immersive 360 audio and visual experience, led by Yao Wang, involving more than 50 students across 7 majors. The recording was done using three ambisonic microphones (Zylia, Ambeo, TetraMic), attempting to forge a 320 piece choir by asking the 40 singers to shift their position around the microphones for every overdub. The Venezuelan Project performs a medley of "Merenguisimo,” “Blue Ensemble,” and "Pajarillo." The first two are by members Josu Ortiz and Carlos Capacho, while the last is traditional. The medley of the three is entitled Roots Medley. The Venezuelan Project is a group that was created by 4 students studying at Berklee College of Music in during Spring 2015. The group focuses on recovering and combining traditional folkloric Venezuelan styles, with contemporary genres of the music world. Current members are Ali Tovar on bass (Caracas), Carlos Capacho on the Venezuelan Cuatro (Guayana), Alexis Soto on percussion (Caracas), Josu Ortiz on piano (Caracas), and Eduardo Betancourt on Llanera Harp (Caracas), who joined the band in 2017.
